Acquire the Mirror

''I'll not put you in the heart, or you'll be wounded.
I'll not keep you in the eye, or you'll be lowly.
I'll give you a place in the spirit, not the eye or the heart,
so you'll be my companion till the last breath.''

How do you see God? Which attribute of His do you most refer to Him with? Is He the 'severe' God, planning punishments and igniting the fire of hell, or is He the 'gentle' One, ready to forgive every mistake of His creation? So what's your answer, severe or gentle? Remember the answer as you'll need it later, after reading today's post.

By getting to know a bit of philosophy and religion, I can confidently conclude that the gist of the teachings of every prophet, saint, and a godly person is to 'Acquire a mirror'. But what exactly is this mirror?

Visualize a simple mirror every household has, a mirror that has no inclinations, that shows the same image in front of it, that reflects 'you'. If there's a fault on one's face, the mirror will not conceal it. A lover may ask the mirror a hundred times to conceal the fault on his beloved's face, but the answer will remain unchanged: 'That is certainly impossible.'

That mirror is God.

If I was to give a mirror into your hand and you see a fault on the face in the mirror, do not think that the mirror is faulty; it is indeed you, your own reflection. The fault is undoubtedly in you. Now, if you didn't like the image, do not break the mirror- although in real no force can break it.

That mirror is certainly God.

So what was your answer? Severe or Gentle?

If you find Him severe, remember that it's you- your very image in that mirror. Your own severity you despise. And yet, if you find Him gentle, that is also you. Your gentleness has made hearts kneel.

The mirror is God Himself. You see a severe God and you break it- you've broken Him. In essence, you've broken yourself. Conversely, you see a gentle God and you embrace it- you've embraced Him. At heart, you've embraced yourself.

'Severity looks upon gentleness with its own eyes and sees only severity. But it is only gentleness that has precedence.'

Acquire the mirror, look into it, find yourself, find God. Pass beyond severity and join with gentleness. It, indeed, has a better taste.

Prayers for this beautiful world.
